The Rat Race, Should You Be Afraid?

The Rat Race, Should You Be Afraid?

Many people live this lifestyle unknowingly. Most people believe this is the norm. That this is the best that life gets. To live, work, retire, die and never do anything significant with their lives. This life that they believe to be normal is merely a rat race, chasing the next quick satisfaction after another and never reaching long term financial goals.

What Is The Rat Race?

The rat race refers to where a person’s cost of living matches or over exceeds their current living costs. They are living from paycheck to paycheck in order to keep alive. This working cycle will continue on until they retire and live off their pension. At which point they frequently are too old to truly enjoy all of the possibilities of the freedom they behold.

What if we could live differently?

What if we could find a way of making money work for us to the point where we don’t need to work anymore. Or at the least be able to have a choice when and where we work. Surely enjoying the freedoms of life early on is much more rewarding than by the time age comes with its restrictions.

How We Get Trapped In The Rat Race:

Don’t worry if this feels like you right now. Most people go through their lives without even realising it. They believe this is the only way to live. Most people are brought up this way.

We live in a materialistic world. The businesses around us have created an idea, that to be cool and are socially accepted, you must have the latest clothes, phone, the coolest car and an ambitious rent payment for a nice place. The people running the businesses make us believe that this is what is required in life to make us happy.

This causes people to spend to keep up with everybody else around them. To look like they are doing well in life by having nice stuff. Consequently, they are not saving and over time this stuff becomes worthless once the next thing comes out. No money is put away and therefore they have to continue to work to support this lifestyle. They work to earn, spend it all and at the end of the month, the cycle is repeated.

You don’t have to live like this…

To many people, this life may seem normal. But seeing as you are here reading this, you are like me. You have seen how people become trapped and you want to achieve something more significant with your life.

This brings me back to a quote I like from a financial guru named Dave Ramsay- “If you live like no one else, later you can live like no one else”.

This means in order to become successful and financially free, you need to…

  1. You need to find ways of making extra income, whilst others are chilling and partying.
  2. Save money whilst others are buying the latest stuff
  3. You need to find ways to invest this extra and saved income

This doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your early life. However, it does mean you need to work hard and you need to make sacrifices. You need to do what others aren’t in order to achieve what they never will.

Escape the Rat Race And Become Financially Free:

Escape the rat race and be free depiction.

I too want to achieve something different with my life. I dream to create a life where I can work and live when and where I want. To give me freedom to work on my passions in life and to help as many people I possibly can along the way.

The main goal is to build passive income streams where the work you put in now will continue to pay you in future. I hope that eventually, after a lot of hard work, the passive income achieved will cover my living expenses. At this point I will be financially free and will be able to live my life freely and not have to worry about going to work if I do not want to.

I hope you found value out of this post. You can follow my journey on this website via the Blog section. Here I have devised the £1 a day challenge, where I aim to make at least £1 a day online with no excuses. The intention is to grow that £1 goal with passive income to the point where I don’t need to work any more.

With the extra income, I will invest it. My prime strategy is long- term stock market investing but will also share other strategies and investing theories through the Investing section of the Money Your Concern website.

To track the lessons I learn in business and finance through this journey, please also check out the Personal Finance section of the site.

Thank you for reading, And best wishes with your financial journey.

Harry.
