So I’m just going to come out and say it. This is my favourite book I’ve ever read. Tim Ferris’s The 4-Hour Work Week brings out a revolutionary idea for escaping the rat race and living your dream life. If you’ve ever dreamed of living how you want, without money worries, read on to get my honest review…
Disclaimer of the 4-hour work week:
Although this book is a New York Times best seller; Selling over 2 million copies, there ought to be a slight disclaimer. This book won’t be for everyone. To some people, the concept of living off 4 hours of work a week may seem far-fetched. This book is more to teach you ways to reduce your workload (perhaps to 4 hours or less a week) without reducing your income. Or in some cases improving it.
This book is effectively a manual for business efficiency. Ferriss talks about becoming more effective at what you do. He also teaches you to eliminate your time spent on the business activities that are a waste of your time so you can focus on the important tasks.
There are 2 key concepts that underpins the whole strategy of the book:
- The 80/20 principle. Find the 20% most profitable activities to do for your business which will give you 80% of the business earnings. If you focus down on these tasks you will save lots of time and even become more profitable. The other 80% can either be outsourced or dropped all together.
- Parkinson’s law. This refers to, the shorter the amount of time you have to complete a task, the more efficient you become. Giving yourself set times to get your work done will cause you to work on the most profitable tasks at hand.
I’ll talk more about using these 2 concepts in late posts…
The two concepts underpin the 4 stages Ferris outlines to see where you can trim your business tasks without impacting your income. These stages make up most of the book content, explaining through stories and knowledge about becoming more effective in a business. Throughout this book you’ll find so many different ideas and concepts which you wouldn’t have ever thought of. Tips that will change your business mentality for good.
Money Your Concern Rating:
Beginner entrepreneur 8/10
Advanced entrepreneur 10/10
As mentioned before, this is the best book I’ve read to date on business and lifestyle improvement. The concepts in the book blew my mind and changed my financial mentality for good. I hope it will for you too!
