How I Created My First Youtube Video: Day 77

How I Created My First Youtube Video: Day 77

Thanks for checking out the £1 a day challenge highlight, day 77. On this day, I finally faced my fears and posted my first Youtube video for Money Your Concern. This day is the end product of a few weeks preparation and learning on how to create a presentation style Youtube video.

Being an introvert, putting myself out there in video form intimidated me. So in the fashion of the Money Your Concern message, I tried to pick the easiest way I could get started and post my first Youtube video. I know the content wont be perfect to begin with, but now I have the ball rolling, I can learn as I go to create a better viewing experience as I progress….

So, it took me until 01:37 AM but I held true to my promise. The Money Your Concern Youtube channel now has a published video. You can check out the Money Your Concern Introduction video here. Where I give a brief overview of what I expect to give and achieve with Money Your Concern in future.

Here’s the process I took to get that first post out there…

So my first focus was what I wanted to say. On Sunday morning I got up pretty early to drive to a quiet car park to re-record for my first post, where I couldn’t be judged. So the morning of recording in my car, I wrote up a whole script of what I wanted to say. This seemed like the least stressful way to get started as I wouldn’t have to worry too much about what to say.

Once I completed the recording, I could then map out how I wanted the presentation to look. Due to a busy week of work, I stupidly left this until the last evening before my promise was up. However, thanks to Tailor Brands, I could quite easily create fairly nice looking slides which I could paste over each slide on google drive.

I then needed to work out how to record the audio whilst running the presentation on the screen. To do this, I found a piece of software called Screencast-o-matic. This has a free service where you can record your voice over as you show your screen. I however had to pay for the paid version (about £1.50/ month). This allows me to play the audio which I uploaded to the computer and then so I can edit the video afterwards. So far, Screencast-o-matic seemed to work fine. The price seems worthwhile to me, considering I intend to regularly add to the Youtube channel over the coming months.

Once I had recorded and edited the video…

All I had to do then, was add it to youtube. This is a simple process. I just added a description, thumbnail and tags to the video, to improve traffic and viewer experience. I know my first few videos are not going to be the best but I’m trying to lead by example and just get started. The best way to improve a skill is by just doing the task you want to get better at.

Thankfully, the £1 a day challenge went smoothly today. I opened up Swagbucks after work today to see that I had earned 200 SB’s for completing a course of 6 recurring surveys over the past 6 weeks. I almost didn’t count this towards the challenge but I suppose that’s just like passive income. Receiving pay for work you have done in advance. So after a search reward, today’s earnings were 205 SB’s (£1.60) for barely any effort on Swagbucks today.
