Welcome to the highlight of day 158 of the £1 a day challenge. Today, after months of building up affiliate links on this website, I finally received my first affiliate commission from Amazon.
Here’s that day’s post addressing this…
Today I finally received my first sale through one of my affiliate marketing links for my book reviews. I have been an amazon affiliate for over 2 or 3 months now. So it’s great to finally get confirmation that my links work.
If you start affiliate marketing for yourself in future, be sure to keep in mind that this will be a slow process to begin with. Unless you already have a large fan base to begin with.
In hindsight, I think I definitely should have held off the affiliate marketing for a while. This is whilst I build the YouTube channel and this website. This would have allowed me to build up a trusting following who would more likely want to click through my links to buy products I recommend. However, I really wanted to get started. I wanted to test out and learn and share with you how affiliate marketing works.
Now that I know it works, I can try to scale this a little more. I can look to add more book reviews to the Money Your Concern website. If you’d like to check out which are the best finance and investing books I’ve read before, you can find this in the learn more and further learning sections of this site.
The commission of this sale is yet to come through so I still needed to make sure I make £1 online today. Once again, I logged onto Swagbucks to make £1 online. This took around 1 hour to complete 3 surveys, earning 128 SB’s (£1.00).
Tips For Earning Affiliate Commission:
So as you read from this days post, your affiliate links will take a while to get any real traction. You first need a large number of visitors to your site. You also need enough trust built up so that they will comfortably click through your link to buy your recommended product.
So if you are thinking of monetising your website with affiliate links, I’d say, hold off until you are getting at least 100 visitors a month. This is because once you sign up to Amazon associates, you need to earn at least 3 affiliate commissions within 6 months for your account to remain valid.
I think i’m in danger of needing to renew my account, so this is a lesson learned from experience.
But other than that, I wish you all the best with your affiliate marketing. I hope you have built up a trusting following who are happy to follow the products you recommend. I hope you can build up lots of links by adding value in your posts. Then, you will make a lot of affiliate commission.
Thanks for reading.
